Happy Day, Happy Week | Inspiration

Hi everyone, Rona here sharing a culinary creation, erm, I mean layout with lots of Evalicious' Life's Sweet embellishments.

Predominantly on this page, I have two of the 4x6 Life's Sweet Large Tags / PL cards layered at the top. I cut out the cute cups originally on these cards ahead of time, because I think I'll use them later and I didn't want to waste them. I really liked the colour of the light aqua blue with the white border. It's a really nice layering piece.

So... this week, my kids suckered persuaded me to buy black pasta. (To me, it reminds me of the black webbing that surrounded Spiderman when he turned bad, but I digress.) The spaghetti is coloured with cuttlefish ink, which sounds kind of gross, but actually doesn't make any difference to the flavour.

I made a white wine and garlic sauce that was absolutely delicious, and decided that putting it into my scrapbook would ensure that I would never lose it. :)  (You can find the recipe here. I only added a squeeze of lemon, and mixed in some shrimp at the very end. Be sure to use proper heavy cream. The lemon will curdle the sauce if you just use milk). I plated it all up fancy-restaurant style with some grilled asparagus from the farmers' market on the side. Yum! (And I also figured out something to do with the leftover white wine. Win win.)

I think one of my favourite bits on this layout is this little wood veneer. Usually, I just put white acrylic paint on when I want it white, but sometimes that just yields more of a white-washed look. I wanted it to be REALLY white, so I covered it with Versamark ink and white embossing powder and then heat embossed it. Now it's super white, and shiny, too.

I made the mistake of trying to stamp over two different layers of paper at the same time with this "I Give This Meal (5 stars)", so I fixed my gaff by restamping it and layering it over one of the Life's Sweet Miscellany Stickers. No one will EVER know!

I used another stamp from the Good Eats Clear Stamp Set... "The Menu" has really fine details in it, so I stamped with a VersaFine black ink and embossed it with clear. I gave it extra dimension by adhering it to the layout with a double layer of foam tape.

On the left, I changed the tone of the "Let's Do This" snip-snip page tab by adding "Again!". Layered with a badge button gives this corner of the layout a splash of the aqua and lime green to even out the colours on the page.

And, it almost goes without saying, that there are lots of really lovely puffy stickers here, too. My layouts aren't complete without them, these days!

Thanks for checking out this layout... and if you try the recipe, let me know how you liked it!

Churros | Inspiration

Hi everyone, Rona here with yet another layout from Spain. I'm so happy that Eve just came out with travel and food themed lines, just exactly what I needed! (Thanks, Eve!!)

In the Life's Sweet Wood Veneer V1 (and, yes, that means that there's also a V2!), there's this really adorable little steaming cup. He's so cute!

There's also a stamp to match, so I fussy cutted it to add to my title on the other side of the page. There are also a few new colours of the puffy alphas. On this layout, I used the Gray Woodgrain Puffy Alphas. I like the lighter, more subtle look it gives, when I don't want a bold, black colour.

The title is a new-to-me font called Sabella. It's got lots of glyphs and stylistic alternatives. Very slick.  Yeah, I'm a sucker for a pretty font.  :)

In the This Way line, there's an awesome "good eats" piece in the This Way Wood Veneer V2 pack. I layered it with a page tab and popped on a heart puffy sticker for good measure. I really love the labels and page tabs for layering. More interesting than just another plain ole die cut.

My last little embellishment cluster... a really lovely "you are sweet" puffy sticker, a snipsnip label, and another little Life's Sweet wood embellie.

This layout was really fun to make, plus I was hungry afterwards. ;)

Thanks again for looking!

Court of the Myrtles | Inspiration

Hola! Rona back again using some Evalicious loveliness on a layout fresh from a trip to Spain!

One amazing place that we visited was Alhambra in Granada, the most visited tourist attraction in Spain.  And for good reason--it's stunning. A photographer's (and scrapbooker's) dream. I really wanted to do it justice, and so the embellishing on this layout is a bit more clean and simple than I usually do.

I used woodgrain in various pieces: the puffy alpha, the arrow, the tag, as well as the snip snip tag in the corner. Having a natural look to the embellishments complemented the photos nicely, without overwhelming them. I love how it turned out.

I used the "photo love" piece from the Photo Shoot Wood Veneers. It wasn't exactly the colour I wanted, so I white washed it with a bit of acrylic paint. Perfecto!

I printed the journaling onto a Photo Shoot Large Tag. To do this, I first made a rectangle text box on a document. I added two triangle shapes to it to block out the lower right and left corners of the rectangle, so that the text would be shaped to the point at the bottom. By the way, one trick I have is that I change the zoom on my screen so that the document width is exactly the same as a real 8 1/2 x 11 sheet... then I just hold up the tag to the screen to check that the size is right and that the text will fit properly before I print. Next, I print to a plain piece of paper. The last step is to use some washi or repositionable tape to put the tag directly over the text on the paper that just printed and run it through the printer again. I carefully remove the tape, and the journaling card is complete.

A stamp on the lower corner so that I'd remember the day, and I'm done. I plan to stamp all of my Spain layouts with this date stamp to bring the album together.

Thanks again for looking! Now, on to the next 46 Spain layouts....

You Make Me Smile | Inspiration

20150126-IMG_5280_Evalicious_CN

Hello Evalicious fans!  Christine here with a layout celebrating love!  Valentine’s Day is coming up and I can’t help but use a bunch of reds and pinks on my layout.

These photos are actually from Thanksgiving Day. We went to the beach after having our Thanksgiving meal.  Since I have six 2-inch photos, I divided my page into thirds.  I adhered three patterned papers down and used my sewing machine to sew a border around the edge with red thread. Then I adhered a piece of vellum in the middle as a backdrop for my six photos.

I cut a strip of paper and adhered it to the top of the layout. Then I used a blue banner from Hello 2014 Miscellany V1 Puffy Stickers. I stamped a banner from Daily Life Clear Stamp Set and stamped the “You Make Me Smile” sentiment in pink inside the banner. Then I cut it out and adhered it with foam adhesive.

I used a wood veneer banner from Field Notes Wood Veneer on the bottom of my layout to mimic the banner on top. I added my journaling and also added some Ledger Alphas Puffy Stickers to spell out “Me & You” on the bottom strip of paper.

I stapled a clip from Arrow Love Shape Clips to the lower right of my vellum. I love how that turned out!
